Room size and capacity

Record floor space and the per-child space standard used for capacity planning.

Irish childcare regulations set a minimum floor space per child. Meadow lets you record each room's floor space and the space-per-child standard so you can plan capacity correctly.

Room size

When you add or edit a room you can set its Size (m²) — the usable floor space. This is optional, but recording it lets Meadow relate a room's space to the number of children it can hold.

Space per child

Your service has a space-per-child standard, which defaults to 2.32 m² — the Irish standard. Capacity for a room is its floor space divided by this figure. For example, a room with 23.2 m² of space allows for 10 children at the default standard.

Different age groups can have different requirements, so always check the figure that applies to the room you're planning.

What's available today

Today you can record room size and the space-per-child standard. Automatic capacity calculators, on-screen "maximum children" figures, and staff-to-child ratio tracking are not part of Meadow yet — they're planned to build on the size information you enter now. Until then, use the recorded sizes to plan capacity yourself.
